Description

Introduction

This was inspired by Trader Dante’s D1atr indicator.  His is for MT4, and this is for cTrader, with additional features. This is now version 4.0 which has had significant additional features; please review version history for more info.

Platform

This indicator comes included with versions for cTrader only.

Usage

ATR is the average true range for the time frame your looking at over the periods you specified.  This gives an indication of current volatility, and how much the market may move during that time period.  The table lists a few time-frames and their average true ranges, and can be toggled off to hide it if you so wish..

If price is moving up, the upper line on the chart shows where the top of the daily ATR would be.  Vice versa, moving down, the lower line shows where the low of the daily ATR would be.  Simply put, if price moves past these lines, it means you are above the average true range for the day, and so a mean reversion is becoming more and more likely the further you extend past it.

If price does move past a line, the line will change colour (depending on your settings).

Historical Values can be toggled on for the use of back-testing a strategy.

atr multiples can be helpful for the occasions where prices moves far beyond (1x) atr.

TIP: If you wish to display multiple atr’s (D1 AND H1 for example, or more) on same chart you can! Simply add the indicator and configure for your first timeframe (D1 for example), then add the indicator again and configure for your next atr. Add it for all the different ones you wish to display at the same time!  Remember to use different colours for the different ATR levels to easily differentiate them!

v4.0

  • NEW: You can now choose to display H1, D1, W1 and M1 atr levels, all within the same indicator, with all the existing features.
  • REBRANDED: Since the original port of Trader Dantes indicator in v2, this has now been updated with many new features, which separate it distinctly from the original; in particular, the fact it is no longer just a D1atr indicator.  As such I am now rebranding the indicator to “staticliquid ATR”.

v3.3

  • NEW: Historical Multiples of D1atr levels (x1.5, x2.0, x2.5, and x3.0) can be viewed extra (or toggled off if not needed). if normal historical lines are off, so will historical multiples by default
  • FIXED: ATR for historical lines now only displays final location (always distance from top to bottom atr lines = D1atr, and not from high low if not breached).  This is easier to use to backtest when lines are not breached.

v3.2

  • NEW: Multiples of D1atr levels (x1.5, x2.0, x2.5, and x3.0) can be viewed extra (or toggled off if not needed)
  • FIXED: Live lines now start at the start of the day (even when history lines are disabled), and also draw to infinity
  • OPTIMISED: Now uses cAlgo 3.0 API

v3.1

  • NEW: Hourly offset now automated to your cTrader open time
  • FIXED: Drawing of new lines (cosmetic only) bug, when indicator kept open over daily candle open

v3

  • NEW: Table can now be toggled on or off
  • NEW: Historical ATR levels can now be displayed! for previous days ATR levels
  • NEW: Historical ATR levels can also be toggled on or off, and separate colour chosen for them
  • NEW: Hourly offset can now be configured, to ensure ATR levels (historical particularly) only appear above correlating candles for the day
  • FIXED: When ATR is breached, further movement past no longer moves the ATR lines further, so you can now see upper and lower ATR as it was at the breach moment in time, regardless of distance of breach
  • OPTIMISED: Whilst doing more, there is now less code, and therefore it initialises quicker and updates quicker when you change an option

v2

  • NEW: Re-coded for cTrader
  • NEW: Added table of commonly used ATR values

v1

  • MT4 Indicator available from Trader Dante
